Although surveillance cameras are not placed high on the Athena Research Corporations list of deterrence against armed robbery, it remains an effective tool- if used properly.
Make sure that your CCTV equipment is operating, and that video is not being erased too soon. It is also important to make sure that cameras are focused over the cash register- this is the main location where video surveillance is necessary.
Lastly, make sure that a burglar is not able to easily destroy video surveillance evidence. Burglars will often destroy video surveillance equipment on their way out. This means your DVR should be protected from burglar damage.
